Due to the amount of activities JIGSAW is now running there will be no capacity for late bookings to any of our events. This is due to the additional admin it requires and our workload. All events are advertised in a timely manner but please be aware they close to bookings when full OR about 3-5 days prior to the event. If you purchase a ticket to any event and are unable to attend, do not offer this to other members on social media. Instead contact the JIGSAW Thornbury events email or phone us at the base. All bookings require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice to cancel with a full refund. This allows us time to fill your space. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice will be non-refundable. Project 5: Train the Trainer
April 26 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
One event on May 10, 2021 at 4:00 pm
One event on May 24, 2021 at 4:00 pm
This training course is designed for Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Welfare and Wellbeing practitioners supporting children and young people with anxiety, stress and mental health issues. The workshops enable trainers to deliver our Project 5 programme within their own settings.
Following the success of our initial pilot which delivered Project 5 resource to pupils and parents of children in KS2/3, we have now developed the Train the Trainer course and teacher resource to be used with pupils in school settings. This training will be delivered alongside theory, practical teaching activities and a resource pack.
This Train the Trainer event has been subsidised by MAF funding and includes a set of 10 journals to use with an identified group of pupils.
We have designed 3 twilight ZOOM sessions to run alongside your first group of students undertaking the 6-week Project 5 programme. All sessions will centre around wellbeing and resilience development for both young people and their families.
Session 1 follows sessions 1 & 2 of the Project 5 programme and will focus on:
- Introducing journaling, and 5 ways to wellbeing,
- Causes and the responses to anxiety and how stress affects our brains and bodies,
- Enabling talk with young people around worries and fears.
Session 2 follows sessions 3 & 4 of the programme and will focus upon:
- Practical activities towards calming stressful responses.
- Why mindfulness works.
- Sleep and relaxation.
Session 3 follows sessions 5 & 6 of the programme and will focus upon:
- Communication and connections
- Emotional Intelligence and choices
- Owning skills and strengths for bouncing back
An open follow-up session is scheduled for a Q&A, GAD–7 submission and general discussion on the Project 5 programme on 7th June for one hour.
Participants will receive their own copy of the Project 5 Journal in addition to a full copy of the training manual. 10 further copies will also be supplied for you to commence your first group.
Following training, participants will have access to ongoing email/networking support, discounts to pupil journal resources and be enrolled as a ‘Project 5 Network Partner’ for the year. As a partner, trainers will be required to provide feedback and GAD 7 scores after delivering Project 5 to their group. This in turn will enable us to collate additional evidence data for developing the programme as a charity.
Settings will also be encouraged to host Parent Workshops and promote engagement and participation in these. This workshop is recommended to parents of children identified for the Project 5 sessions and others interested in learning how to support their child(ren) with anxiety, stress and behaviour. GAD 7 score evidence has indicated that working with BOTH the child and their parent/carer, promotes better wellbeing and resilience than delivering Project 5 to the young person alone. Workshops can either be hosted at your setting, which JIGSAW will help publicise and promote to enable places to be filled, or schools can encourage parents to attend workshops at the JIGSAW Base and other venues including online. (Current restrictions mean that all parent/carer sessions are currently held on the Zoom platform)
ABOUT THE PROJECT 5 PROGRAMME:
Project 5 was developed to promote and support the wellbeing and resilience of young people and the families who support them. The programme’s pilot has evidence to support the thought that, it is more effective to work with both children, their carers and educators. Project 5 delivers initial training to all of these groups. Project 5 covers: the importance of the 5 ways to wellbeing, anxiety and our responses, feelings and emotions, strengths, mindfulness, relaxation, resilience, and assertiveness.
The dedicated Journal runs alongside the Project 5 sessions or as a stand-alone resource and supports the young person’s journey in becoming more resilient. The current programme has been used with young people from YR5-YR13 (age 10-18). A much younger and differentiated programme is currently being developed for YR2-YR5/SEN (age 6-10). Currently, journals are priced at £13.99 individually with orders of 10+ at £9.99 including P&P. As a Network Partner, individuals also have access to discounted journals at £9 each for any purchase amount.
** Due to COVID restrictions, this is currently an online only event. We aim to resume face to face as soon as able. **
