April saw Irwin Mitchell and JIGSAW Thornbury host a series of online sessions around transition to adulthood. It can be overwhelming, and a complex mind field to support a young person through. However, it’s also a time of growth and opportunity towards independence.

First things first, let’s talk about independence. It’s time for many young people to spread their wings and fly! Whether that means moving out or taking on more responsibilities around next steps in education, health, wellbeing, care, and finance. Some young people may need more ongoing support, and these sessions provided legal rights, awareness and signposting around supporting parents and carers of young people with ongoing needs.

We’d like to continue to equip you as parents and carers for this new chapter in your young people’s lives! It’s important to think about key stages and ages early and therefore we are hoping to continue to work with others to provide support and information on relevant topics.

In our recent online sessions, we explored parental and young person’s rights and capacity, powers of attorney, health and care support, finance, assessment, and benefits. You can catch up on these topics by watching the webinars on the links below.

A big thank you to the Irwin Mitchell team for working with us and sharing their expertise to produce these webinars, as well as supporting our charity in other ways such as sponsoring holiday activities.
